Description
Gatta Forest
The Gatta Forest extends over approximately 100 hectares, between 180 and 300 meters above sea level. Rich in various tree species such as oaks, holm oaks, and wild olive trees, it also features typical Mediterranean scrub vegetation, including broom, mastic, cyclamen, and ivy.
The forest is home to wild boars, foxes, porcupines, badgers, and reptiles such as green lizards, vipers, grass snakes, and tortoises. In the past, roe deer could also be found here, but they have now completely disappeared.
As for birdlife, one can spot passerines, blackbirds, thrushes, magpies, owls, tawny owls, little owls, wood pigeons, some corvids, and the occasional falcon.
The forest includes a picnic area with tables, gazebos, barbecues, a playground for children, and trails leading to panoramic viewpoints.
