Feast of the Little Madonna

As is customary every year, on August 17 and 18, the town of Torretta hosts what is locally known as the "Festa della Madonnina" (Feast of the Little Madonna).

The celebration honors Our Lady of Lourdes, who appeared to Bernadette Soubirous in 1858. The Madonna is represented by a plaster statuette—a reproduction of the original statue venerated in Lourdes, France. The statue was recently restored and placed in a newly renovated shrine made of fine marble and glass. It is located along the SS 106 state road, as if watching over and protecting all who travel it.

Both the religious and civil celebrations in honor of the Virgin take place near the shrine, using the adjacent square and parking area as the main venue.
